How to pick the right AI model for the task

AI One team · · 1 min read

Most questions do not need the biggest model. A good rule is to start small and move up only when the answer is not good enough.

Start with the task

  • Quick facts and rewrites: a fast, low-cost model is usually enough.
  • Code and long documents: pick a model known for careful reasoning and a large context window.
  • Images and screenshots: make sure the model can read images at all.

Use Auto when you are unsure

Auto looks at your message and routes it with simple rules. It is a sensible default, and you can always switch model for the next reply.

Check the important answers

When the answer matters, run it in compare mode. Two models agreeing is not proof, but two models disagreeing is a clear signal to look closer.

The cheapest model that answers well is the right model.
